Product Description
MATERIALS & PROCESS
This sculptural painting, made from plaster, clay and gold leaf on a birch wood panel, is an exploration of my cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns of the Luba and Kuba people of Central Congo. It represents a fusion of modern and ancient tradition, celebrating the essence of Central African art through a contemporary technique. The geometric patterns of the Kuba symbolize order, kingship, and interconnectedness, while the flowing, rhythmic designs of the Luba-Baluba reflect cycles of life, fertility, and spiritual transformation. This is a modern and abstract interpretation of these symbols, fusing ancient and contemporary to reimagine them for our present. Each carefully sculpted layer is adorned with gold leaf, symbolizing divinity and the sacredness of our heritage. Custom framed by Rett Ashby, this 50 x 65 inch work bridges the past and present, of Congolese artistry.
WHY
Art has this beautiful way of telling us that we matter. When we recognize elements of our own lives and identities in artwork, it’s like finding a piece of home—it comforts us and boosts our self-esteem.
Art should act as a mirror, reflecting our stories and fostering empathy and curiosity across all backgrounds. Through my “Days of Creation” series I aim to demonstrate that art is not just for observation—it’s a dynamic tool for dialogue. This series is meant to reimagine traditional biblical narratives in an abstract way—embracing a variety of interpretations and spiritualities.
Having diverse art within our personal proximity, dismantles barriers and cultivates feelings of empathy and interconnectedness. As I share each "day," with you, my hope is to illuminate hearts and minds—fostering a deeper, shared collective appreciation for the complex beauty of creation.
